Close the day
Count the cash in the drawer, check the day against the books, and save the close. Saving never locks the day - a late edit simply shows the saved close as changed.

Compare what is in the drawer with what the books say.
Books say the drawer should hold—All cash recorded in the books up to this day.
Type the counted cash to compare it with the books.
Past closes
Saving again for the same day replaces that day's record. Days are never locked.
